What to expect

Expect a warm welcome when you arrive. But don't expect to be wrapped in cotton wool - Arriva wants you involved from the start. It all begins with an introduction to the transport industry, the Arriva Group and the Arriva division you join.

We offer two graduate trainee roles: in general management and engineering management. During the 18-month programme our graduates meet and work with senior people across the company. It is this access to expertise that means they learn to understand operational issues, recognise our business needs and dicover what it takes to deliver success.

Importantly, our graduates gain exposure to significant responsibility early in their careers. They learn to respond to high expectations, tough operational issues, conflicting priorities and tight schedules.

Training

You can expect on-the-job training as well as more formal training - giving you the chance to hone your skills as a future leader. It'll be a challenge, but you'll be supported all the way.

After your initial induction to your Arriva division and the Arriva Group, you'll start working through your Personal Development Plan, supported by a Mentor from your division for the duration of the programme. On-the-job, you'll be trained on the technical side of the business - this could be anything from learning new systems, acquiring knowledge or even learning to drive a bus. Off-the-job training sessions will be held regularly throughout your programme, helping you develop business skills in project management, financial awareness and people management. At Arriva, your learning will never stop.

Arriva greatly values its employees and therefore provides insightful and engaging training and development for its trainees.

What does the future hold?

Your career at Arriva can take you wherever you want to go as a future leader of this growing international business.

By the end of the 18 month programme you will be in a position of significant responsibility. For some of you, that might be as a Depot Manager or Station Manager. For others, it might be a Project Manager or Customer Services Manager. Whatever the role, this will be your first chance to really prove your worth.

From there, the sky's the limit. If you are willing to take advantage of new oppportunities and your performance levels are excellent, then you could make it to a Regional or Area Manager within 3 to 5 years. Within 7 years, you should be in a position of senior management and well on your way to becoming the next Arriva Executive Director.
