Your Career

What to expect

Training Contract
The first year of your training contract will be divided into two, six-month seats where you will gain experience in corporate transactions and litigation and international arbitration. In your second year, you will be given the opportunity to discuss with Skadden the remaining practice areas in which you would like to gain experience in advance of qualifying as a solicitor.

In addition, there is an opportunity for you to undertake a secondment to the Hong Kong or Moscow offices during the second year of your training contract.

Vacation Schemes
Vacation schemes are extremely important for those candidates interested in a Training Contract at Skadden and candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for a placement in the first instance. They allow you a closer insight into the working culture and atmosphere of the firm as well as first-hand experience of working on "real-life" transactions with a diverse client base often with an international aspect. Each student is allocated a supervisor and a trainee liaison who are tasked with the allocation of work.

Skadden prides itself on its broad and comprehensive training programme. As well as completing your Professional Skills Course, you will have a regular training schedule. Drawing upon the experience and teaching abilities of Skadden partners, associates and qualified external consultants, it offers weekly programmes of breakfast and lunchtime training seminars, workshops and updates for associates at all levels and across its practice areas.

Throughout your training contract, a qua lified solicitor will be able to act as your mentor to provide advice and guidance whenever required. You will receive regular performance reviews and appraisals from the Training Principal and your supervisor, who will take a proactive role in shaping your development and progression.

What does the future hold?

The complexity of Skadden's work and the depth of its resources across practice areas position it's partners to serve as educators of your career.
